My
name is Frank Schalk... about me..professionally, at least..
I
received a BA in Film and Video from UC Santa Cruz in 1998 and was
particularly interested in a course entitled Computers in Motion
Picture and Video, which integrated digital media with traditional
film and video elements. It was in this class where I first experienced
the creative potential of multimedia as a powerful tool for artists.
I applied this experience towards learning Web design, and soon
got a job doing it.
I
received my Masters Degree in Broadcast Electronic Communications
from San Francisco State in October 2004, again building on digital
media design and theory.
Shortly
after, I went to work for the Academy of Art University, building
a whole new set of skills based on broadcast media content. I was
an assistant editor, DVD designer and author, and composer of original
music composer for the On-Air Advertising department.
In addition to
the visual arts, I have been a traditional musician for many years,
playing trumpet from elementary school through college. I played
classical and jazz, and toured the world with the high-school band.
As a rock and electronic music fan, I learned guitar and bass soon
after. I continue to play with various groups and projects,
and record on my own mini-studio as well.
I
do try to blend business with pleasure, opting to see the humor
in life, no matter what deck of cards it deals. I have a singular
attention to the look and sound of life in general, and what it
all means. Along with my passions for film, music, and history,
I like solving puzzles, traveling, good food, popular science, and
celebrating ridiculously dated
pop culture relics among other things. I have a wonderful fiance,
Jennifer, who, as it goes without saying, has more than served her
tour of duty by putting up with me and my nonsensical antics.
If
nothing more, I hope to make people look at things just a little
differently after meeting me (not enforced by the brute force of
a fistfight or anything like that, but rather through the strength
of my ideas). Breaking the mold along the way, of course.
Speaking of having a sense of humor, it pays to have one, albeit
slightly offbeat, when viewing my YouTube
page and all it has to offer to society.. Youv'e been warned.
